Sanitation and hygiene supply among the pilot settlements in the Pastdargom and Samarkand Districts of the Samarkand Region
The problem:
In the Pastdargom and Samarkand Districts of the Samarkand Region, there were significant public health challenges related to sanitation and hygiene. Many communities lacked basic knowledge and skills necessary for effective sanitation practices, which contributed to poor hygiene conditions and increased health risks. The problem was exacerbated by insufficient public health education and inadequate training resources on proper sanitation and hygiene practices. This gap in knowledge and practical application hindered efforts to improve public health and sanitation within schools and communities.
The solution:
InfoCapital Group LLC (ICG) addressed these issues through a comprehensive approach aimed at enhancing public health education and improving sanitation practices:
1. Sociological Studies and Surveys:
- Preliminary Social Surveys: ICG conducted preliminary sociological studies using questionnaires and focus group discussions to assess the current sanitation and hygiene practices in the pilot settlements. This research helped identify key areas of concern and gaps in public knowledge.
- Interviews: Detailed interviews were carried out with residents and school staff to understand their skills, behavioral problems, and practical application of hygiene basics. This helped in pinpointing specific needs and areas for intervention.
2. Evaluation and Research:
- Hygienic and Sanitary Conditions Assessment: ICG evaluated the existing hygienic and sanitary conditions in schools and communities. This included a review of current practices and identification of deficiencies that needed addressing.
- Review of Training Techniques: An analysis of existing training and informational techniques was conducted to determine their effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
3. Educational Materials and Training:
- Preparation of Materials: ICG developed and published educational materials, including 150 copies of 5 poster forms, 120 copies of 4 booklet forms, 30 copies of handouts, and 30 copies of methodological manuals. These materials were designed to enhance understanding and application of hygiene practices.
- Training Sessions: Three training sessions were conducted for school teachers and households in the Makhallas. A total of 75 participants were trained on sanitation and hygiene practices, equipping them with practical knowledge and skills to implement in their communities.
4. Workshops and Reporting:
- Final Workshop: A final workshop was organized to present findings and discuss sanitation and hygiene issues with stakeholders. This workshop facilitated knowledge sharing and collaborative planning for future improvements.
- Detailed Report: ICG prepared a comprehensive project report with recommendations. The report included guidelines for improving the effectiveness of sanitation and hygiene education, recommendations for system improvements, and strategies for better information exchange to reduce diseases.
Through these activities, ICG effectively addressed the public health issues related to sanitation and hygiene in the target districts, contributing to improved community health and enhanced public understanding of proper hygiene practices.
